How do I set up my Stelo sensor and share my readings with Ciba Health?

In this article

Who this is for: Ciba Health patients who received a Stelo glucose sensor

Set up the Stelo app first. Then put on the sensor and pair it with the app. Last, share your readings with Ciba Health: in the Stelo app, go to Connections, then Clarity Clinic, and enter the clinic code Cibahealth.

Before you start

  • Your phone needs Bluetooth and an internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data).
  • To check that your phone works with Stelo, see stelo.com/compatibility.
  • You can use the Stelo app on only one phone.

Steps

Step 1: Download the Stelo app

Get Stelo by Dexcom from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android).

Step 2: Create an account or log in

Open the app. If you are new to Dexcom, tap Create Account. If you already have a Dexcom account, tap Log In.

Step 3: Follow the setup in the app

The app shows you the basics of Stelo. When it asks, turn on Bluetooth and allow notifications. Then choose your target range. You can change the range later in the app settings.

Step 4: Choose a spot on the back of your upper arm

Wear the sensor only on the back of your upper arm. Other places, such as your belly, may not work as expected. Pick a spot that:

  • has some fat under the skin, not loose skin, muscle or bone
  • will not get bumped or pushed, and that you do not lie on while you sleep
  • is at least 3 inches from any injection site
  • has no irritation, scars, tattoos or a lot of hair

Use a different spot each time you put on a new sensor.

Step 5: Insert the sensor

The app shows these steps too.

  1. Wash your hands with soap and water, and dry them.
  2. Clean the spot with an alcohol wipe. Let it dry completely, for at least 10 seconds.
  3. Unscrew the cap of the applicator. Do not touch the inside. Do not use an applicator that is damaged or already opened.
  4. Press and hold the applicator firmly against your skin until the clear safety guard is pushed in. Then push the button on the side of the applicator.
  5. Rub firmly around the patch 3 times. Then gently press on top of the sensor for 10 seconds.
  6. Keep the applicator. You need the pairing code on it in Step 7.

A mirror can help you see what you are doing.

Step 6: Put on the overpatch

The overpatch keeps the sensor on your skin. It is in the sensor box, with the instructions.

  1. Pull off both clear liners, one at a time. Do not touch the white sticky area.
  2. Use the colored tab to place the overpatch around the sensor.
  3. Rub around the overpatch.
  4. Use the tab to peel off the colored liner.
  5. Rub around the overpatch again.

Try to keep the overpatch dry and free of sweat for the first 12 hours. This helps it stick longer.

Step 7: Pair the sensor

In the app, enter the 4-digit pairing code from the applicator. Tap Take Photo to scan it, or tap Enter Code Manually. Keep your phone within 20 feet of the sensor.

After pairing, the sensor warms up for about 30 minutes. You will not see readings until the warmup is done. You can then throw away the applicator, following your local rules.

Step 8: Share your readings with Ciba Health

Do this step so your Ciba Health care team can see your glucose readings.

  1. Open the Stelo app.
  2. Tap the settings icon at the top right of the screen.
  3. Tap Connections.
  4. Tap Clarity Clinic, then Continue.
  5. Enter the clinic code Cibahealth.
  6. Check the clinic details and tap Done.

Clarity Clinic then stays in your list of connections. Keep your phone connected to the internet so your readings can be sent.

If something goes wrong

  • I cannot find the settings icon: depending on your app version, Settings may be a tab at the bottom right of the screen instead.
  • The sensor will not pair: check that the code you entered is the code on the applicator. Keep your phone within 20 feet of the sensor, with nothing in between.
  • The overpatch gets wet or peels off: pat it dry as soon as you can. If it peels, trim the loose parts and put on a new overpatch or medical tape.
  • Something is wrong with the sensor or the Stelo app: contact Dexcom technical support. In the Stelo app, go to Settings, then Contact.
  • The clinic code does not work, or you are not sure your readings are shared: contact Ciba Health support.

Talk to your provider before you change any medicine based on your readings.
